Wadi Rum: How Long and Where to Stay

How long to stay in Wadi Rum

Many people visit Wadi Rum, stay only one night, and regret it. We stayed two nights and feel that this is the minimum time you should allocate to this wonderful place. Many camps will allow you to check in anytime after 7am, although it’s likely you will be coming from somewhere else and arrive in the afternoon. At this time of the day, most people will be out on a tour and you could have the whole camp to yourself.

We were lucky enough to be able to relax in our camp for 4 hours before about 30 other tourists showed up at 8pm. The next day we were on our jeep tour from 10am to 8pm. We were then transferred back to Wadi Rum village around 8am the day after that. If you spend only one night in Wadi Rum, you will spend your first day on a tour before returning after sunset and being whisked away first thing the next morning, without time to enjoy your camp.

How to get to Wadi Rum

We drove to Rum village, where we parked our car outside the office of our camp/tour operator. From there we were driven to the camp, which took about 15-20 minutes. We had to let the accommodation know in advance what time we would be arriving, so that they could ensure transport was available. Generally, only one-way transport is included in the cost of your accommodation and in our case we each had to pay an extra 5 JOD for transport back from the camp.
